LLanewave is a team of Vancouver designers who have gotten together to provide the lower mainland with new choices for laneway housing.
Our belief is that Vancouverites are increasingly sophisticated in their sense of residential design. They (we) are well-travelled, cosmopolitan, and knowledgeable about the kind of design taking place around the world. You only need to walk around Robson Street or Gastown to see that retailers agree.
For some reason, though, the options typically provided by standard architectural development in the city tend to cater to yesterday’s market. Houses and condominiums are often marketed on the strength of relatively commonplace features, such as granite countertops or central air conditioning, while the architectural effect of the space is banal.
We believe that form and space are important. We believe that the experience of living in your house and being around it matters. Returning to your house at the end of the workday should feel refreshing, even profound. We believe that laneway houses should be sustainable, and suited to the city, with its unique climate and lifestyle.
In that sense, Lanewave is “designer-driven” laneway housing. And these are the designers driving Lanewave:
- gb01.50 – a design for a 750 sq ft, 50′ lot laneway house
- gb02.33 – a design for a 1,400 sq ft, 33′ lot rearyard infill
- mb01.33 – a design for a 500 sq ft, 33′ lot laneway house
- mw01.33 – a design for a 500 sq ft, 33′ lot laneway house
